SMAANZ 2008 WELCOME

The Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) will hold their Conference for 2008 in Fremantle at the Esplanade Hotel.

The theme of "Raising the Bar: Promoting Excellence in Sport Management" is particularly appropriate to Fremantle, as it has a rich history of sporting achievements.

Almost overnight, Fremantle transformed itself into a city that hosted the America's Cup battle in 1987 and became the host city for the Fremantle Dockers of AFL fame. Sporting teams from Western Australia are renowned for being both trailblazing and innovative, resulting in much success on the sporting field.

However, off the field, the challenge remains to provide research that sport managers can use to develop policies, systems and strategies that address some of the wild issues in sport.
