The 12th Biennial Conference of the International Society for Justice Research (ISJR)
For the first time in its history the conference of the International Society for Justice Research (ISJR) will move “down under” and will be held in Adelaide, South Australia, on August 14-17, 2008.
ISJR is an interdisciplinary organisation with an international membership, representing over 25 countries and a range of disciplines, including Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Law, Criminal Justice, Political Sciences, Economics, Organization Studies and History. ISJR is world-wide among the most important societies representing social scientists working in the field of justice. It publishes its own journal (Social Justice Research) and holds biennial scientific meetings that stimulate interdisciplinary dialogue and represent the most current advances in justice research.
The theme of the 2008 conference will be “Justice in a diverse society”, apt to its Australian location. Diversity is a global phenomenon and its challenges to justice and fairness are wide-spread, whether these derive from a history of colonisation, increased movement and migration, or a renewed sectarianism, racism and nationalism. The conference in Adelaide will provide a variety of perspectives on this issue, in invited keynote addresses, symposia, individual papers and posters. However, contributions to any issue of justice and fairness will be welcome.
The conference will feature keynote addresses by John Braithwaite (Australian National University), Timur Kuran (Duke University) and Aileen Moreton-Robinson (Queensland University of Technology), as well as a presidential address by Linda Skitka (University of Illinois at Chicago) and addresses by the ISJR Early Contribution and Lifetime Achievement awardees.
We also invite participants to take the location of the conference as an opportunity to explore Adelaide and its surroundings. Adelaide is a city of over a million people but with a relaxed flair. The conference will take place at the Stamford Grand Hotel in the beachfront suburb of Glenelg. The wine-producing areas close to Adelaide are world-renowned and offer over a hundred cellar-door tasting experiences. You should also visit other parts of Australia and explore this fascinating continent. Learn about its culture and people, discover its wondrous wildlife, visit its spectacular sights, marvel at the vastness of its land and enjoy the pleasures of its cities. You will find further links and information about travel options at this website.
