The Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) will hold their Conference for 2008 in Fremantle at the Esplanade Hotel.
The theme of "Raising the Bar: Promoting Excellence in Sport Management" is particularly appropriate to Fremantle as it has a rich history of sporting achievements.
Almost overnight, Fremantle transformed itself into a city that hosted the America's Cup battle in 1987 and became the host city for the Fremantle Dockers of AFL fame. Sporting teams from Western Australia are also renowned for being both trailblazing and innovative resulting in much success on the sporting field.
However, off the field, the challenge remains to continually improve and update knowledge in sport management. The organising committee would like to receive proposals for papers on any topic of interest in the field of sport management, but particularly in relation to the following themes: • Sports Governance and Leadership • Sports Marketing, Media and PR • Sports Law • Sports Tourism and Events • Sports Policy and Development • Sports Participation and Social Issues
