RANZCP Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age Annual Scientific Meeting
27 - 28 November 2008 Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Theatre, University of Melbourne
The Facult of Psychiatry of Old Age welcomes all persons with an interest in the mental health of older people to attend its Annual Scientific Meeting in Melbourne on 27-28 November 2008. Our first keynote speaker is Robert Howard, Professor of Old Age Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, London. Professor Howard is one of Britain’s leading researchers and teachers in the areas of late life psychosis and depression. The second keynote speaker is John Hodges of Cambridge University, presently a Federation Fellow at the University of New South Wales. Professor Hodges is a world leader in the assessment and diagnosis of the frontotemporal dementias. Their presentations will be of interest to psychiatrists, geriatricians, neurologists, nurses, allied health professionals, managers, health care planners, consumers and carers. There will also be time for free papers on mental disorder, service improvement, training, residential care, dementia care, ethical issues, and other topics too. All registrants are invited to submit abstracts for papers or posters.
The meeting's theme is "Mental Health and Ageing: Preparing for Out Future" to emphasise the need for members of all disciplines to work together to provide high quality medical, psychological, social and spiritual support to older people with complexmental and physical conditions. By this means, we will ensure good care for ourselves and our families in coming decades. We are especially mindful of the needs of older people from indigenous and culturally diverse backgrounds whose access to care is often compromised.
The conference will be held in the beautiful Dame Eli abeth Murdoch Theatre, University of Melbourne, right in the centre of the city. Hotels, cafes, restaurants, art galleries and museums are all within a short tram ride.
