Self determination is an essential component for good governance models in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander service providers. Research has shown better health outcomes when Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities are in control of their services and can be self determining.
This conference will look at governance and accountability models which support community controlled organisations and service providers. Commonwealth funding forms the core funding for many organisations and to remain accountable, organisations are faced with a burden of complex reporting requirements. This conference will examine models of funding and accountability that support Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander organisations to continue providing effective service delivery to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.
The conference will examine two-way accountability and the transparency and progress of Government and service providers to reach the ‘Close the Gap’ targets.
Providing a platform of consultation between stakeholders across, community, service providers, Government and research, the conference will examine strategies which empower organisation to improve outcomes for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities.
