Welcome to the 2008 national conference of the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health and Aboriginal Perinatal and Infant Mental Health.
This conference is for people who are interested in promoting education, therapy, research, and study of the effects of mental, emotional and social development during infancy including social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, teachers and early childhood professionals. The theme of this year’s conference is "Angels in the Nursery" from Alicia Lieberman’s paper of the same name and its theme is focusing on building relationships and strengths in families and others who care for infants.
We are privileged in having as keynote speakers Dr Anthony Bateman from UK, one of the pioneers of mentalisation training, Dr Julie Larrieu from US who works with infants and trauma, Dr Judith Woodhead from the Anna Freud Institute in UK who specialises in mother infant therapy and Professor Judy Atkinson, from Southern Cross University in NSW and author of "Trauma Trails: Recreating Song Lines, The Transgenerational Effects of Trauma in Indigenous Australia".
The conference this year will take a different format from past conferences, giving longer presentations from our keynote speakers in order to give attendees a better opportunity to learn from their wisdom. The conference will also offer opportunities for leading Australian infant mental health professionals to present their work and will provide an excellent opportunity for sharing and networking.
The annual AAIMHI conference has for almost 20 years brought world leaders in the field to Australia and been the initiator of new trends in working with families and infants, bringing opportunities for improved infant mental health to workers in all fields.
We are delighted to welcome you to Adelaide for this year’s conference. Adelaide is beautiful in the spring time and you are very close to attractions whatever your taste - including beaches, hills, art galleries and wineries.
We especially welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our conference.
