11th Annual National Power is New Zealand 2009
24-26 February 2009 Skycity Convention Centre, Auckland, New Zealand
This is the event that brings government, industry and users together in a challenging, provocative and interactive environment.
Unfolding over three days, National Power New Zealand 2008 was awash with highlights. With over 41 energy industry executives from New Zealand and across the globe gathering to discuss and debate issues and challenges affecting New Zealand’s indigenous energy sector, in addition to creating a global energy context.
Highlights of 2008
The conference welcomed over 300 participants. With over 130 companies representing the energy and gas industry.
Highlights from the conference floor included:
• Keith Turner, outgoing CEO of Meridian Energy, New Zealand’s biggest power generator, taking a swipe at New Zealand’s electricity industry for failing consumers with blackouts and unreliable service in light of increasing power prices in the order of 50% over the past decade
• Dr Robert Dixon, Senior Coordinator, White House Task Force on Energy Security and Climate Change, providing an overarching perspective on measures currently underway globally to produce and use energy with a higher level of efficiency.
• A row between Don Elder, CEO of Solid Energy, and David Parker, New Zealand’s Minister of Energy, over the Government’s failure to consult professionals over the efficacy and efficiency of extracting gas and diesel from Southland lignite deposits.
